================================================== What is TopiX ??? ================================================== The PSION's way to organise files vertically - like filelists, on the Psion screen positioned under the applications they run with, is nice if you know the application and the exact name of the file you look for. In real life, however, files should rather be grouped horizontally: letters, spreadsheets and databases for a common project or customer should be kept together. To identify a file the standard filename (e.g. IBSI1194.WRD for "Invoice, Barker & Sons, Inc. november 1994) is often not enough. So a textual description would be nice as well. Topix is an outlining program. You enter headlines and subheadings and then move them around to form a "tree structure" which reflects the structure of your project. This is why one beta tester suggested the term "Idea Organiser" or "Idea Processor". To every line you may attach a new or already existing file. Since TopiX stores information about the application as well, you can link a line to a word document, a database, a spreadsheet or even to a OPO-module. Since TopiX will help to navigate easily between different files, there must be a fast way to jump to TopiX. On startup Ctrl-Shift-0 (the digit 0, not "o") is registered as the system-wide TopiX hotkey. Registered users may change this hotkey and save it together with the outline file. ================================================== Installation ================================================== You have received several files in this archive - TOPIX.APP the actual application - TOPIX??.RSC messages & menus - TOPIX??.HLP online documentation - TOPIX.CFG sample db of launchable applications - TOPIX.DEF defaults file - TPXMODTS.OPO example module - TPXMODTS.OPL example module (source) - TPXMODIE.OPO import/export module - TPXMODIE.OPL import/export module (source) - README.TXT you found this already :-) - SAMPLE.TPX sample TopiX outline - SAMPLEW.WRD file attachement to SAMPLE.TPX - SAMPLET.SPR file attachement to SAMPLE.TPX - INSTALL.OPO installation routine unzip the archive in any directory. Then start INSTALL.OPO from the RunOPL icon. You will be guided through an automatic installation routine that copies or moves all the neccessary files and creates directories as needed. TopiX can also be installed from a remote computer. Unzip the archive on your PC, start MCLink / SLink and choose REM::C:INSTALL.OPO from your RunOPL icon. After you have read the online help and when you feel that you know everything about TopiX you can delete \app\topix\topix.hlp. This disables TopiX's help key but recovers ~22k of precious discspace. ================================================== DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE ================================================== Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are expected to register. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and the copyright holder retains all rights. The main difference is in the method of distribution. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy. And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the product, you don't pay for it. ================================================== DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT ================================================== Users of TopiX must accept this disclaimer of warranty: "TopiX is supplied as is. The author disclaims all warranties, expressed or implied, including, without limitation, the warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose. The author assumes no liability for damages, direct or consequential, which may result from the use of TopiX." TopiX is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of another system. The essence of "user-supported" software is to provide computer users with quality software without high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to continue to develop new products. If you find this program useful and find that you are using TopiX and continue to use TopiX after a reasonable trial period, you must make a registration payment to the author. The registration fee will license one copy for use on any one computer at any one time. You must treat this software just like a book. An example is that this software may be used by any number of people and may be freely moved from one computer location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it being used at one location while it's being used at another. Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the same time. You are encouraged to pass a copy of TopiX along to your friends for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their copy if they find that they can use it.
